Center for Software Excellence

The center is currently in the early stages of establishment.

The strategic mission of the Center for Software Excellence (CSE) is to develop the software professional of the future. CSE is a collaboration between the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (UL Lafayette), The School of Computing and Informatics (CMIX), The Center for Business  & Information Technology (CBIT), The Center for Visual and Decision Informatics (CVDI), The Department of Visual Arts (DVA), Louisiana Immersive Technologies Enterprise (LITE), and South Louisiana Community College (SLCC).

CSE will be driven by three fundamental goals:

  • Workforce: Create a consistent stream of educational opportunities for software professionals through the support of existing and creation of new certificates, training courses, Associates, Bachelors, Masters and PhD degrees.  These would all be aligned with business, industry and government (BIG) employer job requirements and reach into the secondary education delivery system.
  • Economic Development: Create opportunity for economic development and entrepreneurship through the engagement of business and industry. CSE would seek input into the skills and tools necessary to be a successful software professional and entrepreneur. This would lead to creating new products, services, and companies.
  • Research: Continue to support the long and storied history of computer science and informatics research that has been identified with UL Lafayette. By focusing research on opportunities identified by business, industry, and entrepreneurs, CSE will help create “research with a purpose”.

Overall, the goal of CSE is to work with business, industry, and government (BIG) to create a delivery system of relevantly educated software development professionals who fill workforce needs and create new products, services and companies.
